Do you remember our trip to the Amalfi Coast last year? We got around to posting about half the content from that trip, but as it often happens, time slipped away from us and the digital pile of Positano photos was too overwhelming to tackle. Now that our team has grown, we enlisted their help to finally get this much-requested post finished up, nearly one year after our trip. Let’s just call it fashionably late! Positano is truly magical to experience in person—it’s no surprise that people from all over the world visit to enjoy the epic vistas, beautiful beach, and bustling streets. Positano was the final leg of our Amalfi Coast trip, and our plans for more exploring were thwarted as soon as we set foot on the property where we were staying, Le Sirenuse. We spent a majority of our time in Positano there, eating at their restaurant, sitting by the pool, and soaking in the view from our balcony. It was the perfect end to our trip and we hope to return someday soon. I loved looking back on these photos, and hope you enjoy a couple of the highlights from our time in Positano.
Le Sirenuse
When we booked Le Sirenuse, we had very high hopes. Regardless of your budget, I’m sure we’ve all had moments when we pay a little more for a hotel room (or any consumable experience, in more general terms) than we feel totally comfortable with, but we choose to book anyways. Our expectations are highest in those moments, and there’s nothing wrong with that—we all work hard for our money and want to make sure it’s worthily spent. A “splurge” can sometimes result in deeper dissatisfaction if it falls short of our expectations, but on the other hand, seeing even high expectations exceeded is amazing. Le Sirenuse is one of those places. We particularly loved their pool area that overlooks Positano. If you want, you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner all in the same place, right by the pool area. Their restaurant transforms into a Michelin star restaurant in the evening, and their excellent staff truly brings the whole experience together.
Boat Trip to Dinner
On our final evening, we were feeling adventurous and asked the concierge to recommend an unforgettable dinner on the water, preferably that we could get to by boat ride. He recommended Il Pirata, which was on the more casual side, but he assured us it was definitely the experience we were looking for. The restaurant is situated on the water in the town of Praiano (not far from Positano), so we started the night walking down to the beach in Positano, where we hired a boat to take us to dinner. As we departed, we asked if the boat captain could stop in the middle of the harbor so we could snap a few pictures. Little did we know, this particular captain was a very good photographer and the pictures he got of Thomas and me are some of my favorites ever. The picture of the two of us from that evening is still the background on my phone (now that I think of it, Thomas’ phone background is also from our time in Positano). It was a favorite night of our trip. The actual food wasn’t nearly as memorable as the photo or the experience, but that didn’t matter. Everything from riding along the coast as sunset neared, to arriving at a cove where the restaurant was, to hopping off the boat and enjoying our meal along the shoreline was so romantic.
Casa e Bottega
I mentioned we spent most of our time at Le Sirenuse, but after over a week in Italy overindulging at nearly every meal, it was nice to finally stumble on a place with zucchini noodles instead of pasta noodles. We had a nice refreshing lunch here one day and enjoyed their small interior decor store (where we picked up a few keepsakes) just as much as the restaurant.
Beach
We didn’t hop into the ocean until the morning that we left. We decided to start off the day hitting the beach first thing, before driving to Rome in the afternoon to catch our flight home. We beat all of the crowds and pretty much had the beach and water to ourselves.
No matter how many times we visit Italy, we always find ourselves dreaming about our next trip there before our flight home even takes off. There are so many different landscapes, experiences, history, and cuisines to enjoy within this one beautiful country. We’ll never stop trying to experience as much of it as we can!
