All The Wellbeing Products We Tried & Loved In October

October 29, 2021BruceDayne

At least once a week, the writers and editors on Refinery29's Life team get into a long Slack conversation about some cool new item that's been absolutely saving or changing or elevating our lives. So we decided to share the wealth, and highlight some our favorite products each month — the things that were so useful or so cool, we couldn't stop using them.

Here's what we're eating, drinking, carrying, wearing, and decorating our apartments with this month.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Hotel Lobby Candle In Signature Scent

"I am a sucker for a luxe candle and the Hotel Lobby Candle feels and smells so luxe. Based on the scent of a hotel lobby, this candle filled my apartment with the most wonderful, refreshing scent that made me forget for a moment that I haven't traveled since January 2020. The signature scent has notes of agarwood, vetiver, and atlas cedar and gives me real spa vibes. And every bit of the packaging is incredible — from the bow-wrapped box to the burning instructions emblazoned on a hotel room key, founder Lindsay Silberman really did think of everything." — Hannah Rimm, Editor

Dash Mini Rice Cooker

"The theme of my life lately has been: (a) how do I cook so my IBS stops flaring? and (b) how do I be more like TikTok's current lord and savior, Emily Mariko? The answer to both of those questions is this very adorable, perfectly-apartment-sized rice cooker. It cooks up to two cups of rice in twenty minutes and keeps it warm all day (though, honestly, I usually finish it within a few hours because it's so well cooked). But the best part about this rice cooker is the price. At only $25, I'm honestly shocked I lived 28 years without this in my kitchen." — HR

Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Wireless Mouse

"After approximately 100 months of working from home, I've finally accepted my fate as a hybrid remote worker and have actually started putting effort into my work-from-home set-up. My first instinct was to get a laptop stand (still haven't found the best one for myself, height-wise) and a keyboard (I have the Logitech mini keyboard for Mac), but turns out what I needed most was what I least expected missing from the office days: a mouse. There is something so satisfying about being able to scroll with a physical scroller (this is not a technical term, don't @ me) and I love the way this mouse fits so perfectly in my hand. I've always defaulted to whatever mouse was at my office and I can't believe it took me eight years of working in offices to realize how important the right mouse is to my comfort. Also not for nothing, the ability to actually click is really giving me early-aughts vibes for all you y2k lovers out there. Moral of the story: I built a work from home set up because I thought I wanted a fun keyboard and laptop stand, but turns out what we all really need is the perfect little mouse." — HR

Red Clay Hot Honey

"I grew up drizzling honey over buttered popcorn (is that weird?) and as an adult, I've found that hot honey takes this comfort-food snack to the next level. This option by Red Clay — a brand that also makes really killer hot sauces — is just spicy enough, and I love the easily squeezable bottle it comes in." — Mirel Zaman, Deputy Director of Lifestyle, Wellbeing, & Social Issues

BAGSMART Travel Jewelry Organizer Case

"I got to travel recently for a wedding. It had been so long since I packed a bag for an honest-to-goodness trip — one that involved real outfits, because I would be doing more than lounging at my parents' house — that I found myself overwhelmed. I bought this jewelry organizer in a fit of frustration over how I'd get my necklaces and earrings from point A to point B, and it ended up being the star of my suitcase. It was about the size of disc-man (I'm sorry, I know that's a dated reference but... it's about that size), but held an outsized amount of my stuff, with enough padding that I wasn't stressed about anything getting scratched. Since I returned home, I've kept my jewelry in there, a sign of how convenient it is." — MZ

ANYGUARD KF94 Face Mask

"Like all of us, I've experimented with many a face mask over the past two years, both disposable and reusable. In these masks, I've found my forever love. The top flap (with a metal nosepiece) molds securely over the bridge of my nose, resting slightly higher up than other masks, which solves two problems: It keeps the fabric from rubbing harshly on and irritating the tip of my nose, and it rests just under my glasses but flush against my face, so my breath doesn't fog up my lenses. The lower two-thirds of the mask cups my mouth and chin in a way that feels super-safe, without being overly tight or restrictive. I wore this guy on a long-haul flight with no issue, if that speaks to its comfort. It comes in white and black for styling options, too." —MZ

Kate McLeod Face Stone

"I've been a big fan of Kate McLeod's Body Stone for a while now; applying it after a shower and having it heat up in my hand and release its oils (and delicate floral scent) has become one of my favorite daily rituals. So when the Face Stone was released, I was incredibly excited to try it — now, it's my favorite new moisturizer. My skin is incredibly sensitive and turns red super-easily (very fun!), but since I've started using the Face Stone, the redness has been non-existent and my skin feels preternaturally smooth, soft, and nourished. I thought I might need a little time to adapt to using the Face Stone rather than a traditional moisturizer, but the act of applying it is one of the best parts: just a couple quick swipes (always swipe up!) are all that's needed, and massaging it into my skin feels invigorating and soothing all at once. And? I love the fact that there'll never be any moisturizer that I can't reach left in the bottom of a jar or bottle. Instead, I'll just be rubbing this into my skin until it all disappears, leaving my skin looking and feeling hydrated and calm." — Kristin Iversen, Director of Lifestyle, Wellbeing, & Social Issues

Hoka Rincon 3

"This has been a year in which I have gone through no less than three (3!) pairs of sneakers because I have gotten really into walking long distances (six miles on my morning walk?! it's true) and even running on occasion (!!). The point is, I'm putting real miles on my shoes. And while I'd been having a great time with my Hoka Cliftons (first the 7, then the 8), I am really glad that I've now tried the Rincon 3, which are almost absurdly light on the foot and beautifully responsive, thanks to not being overly cushioned. They've become my fast favorites for running on trails or on the road, up and down stairs, and, yes, even just on errands." —KI

Harper Wilde The Move

"Most sports bras aren't really meant to double as hanging-around tops, and are usually the sort of thing you want to take off right after you're done using them. But, The Move bra by Harper Wilde is different. It's incredibly soft, sleek, and comfortable, offering perfect support for low- to medium-impact activities, and is truly something I just like to wear as a pajama top, thanks to the pretty plum color and maximum comfort level. Pair it with the Lounge Sleep Shorts and get cozy." — KI

Grist: A Practical Guide to Cooking Grains, Beans, Seeds, and Legumes by Abra Berens

"As we enter into the time of year when nothing feels better than staying inside and hunkering down, we can at least feel a glimmer of hope knowing that a long, dark winter brings with it lots of opportunities to cook a variety of hearty, warming meals. And there's no better chef to turn to for this than Abra Berens, whose last cookbook, Ruffage, was an instant, vegetable-oriented classic, and whose latest, Grist, is bound to be the same. Full of recipes detailing a variety of things to do with 29 different types of beans, grains, and legumes, Grist is an approachable guide to cooking familiar pantry staples in unfamiliar, wholly delicious ways. Some ingredients — lentils, quinoa, oats — might be ones you already have waiting in your cabinets, but Berens also has inspired me to stock up on teff, amaranth, and wheat berries, all the better to try out her perfectly appealing recipes. Suddenly, winter doesn't seem so intimidating. At least there'll be lots of good things to eat." — KI

Janji Runterra Bio Long Sleeve

"I spend most of the fall and the early winter running in shorts or light leggings and a long-sleeve T — to me, it's a sign that the running temps are perfect. This top half of that combo is a dream: It wicks sweat super-efficiently and doesn't get stinky. As an added bonus, the material is synthetic but it's been formulated to biodegrade in under four years (the brand says that a typical polyester shirt will take hundreds of years), which is something you can feel good about. It's also comfy enough to WFH in." — MZ

Lem MotivAir Bike Helmet

"This fall, I got into renting Citi Bikes and riding them through Central Park. I felt like a kid again flying down the pavement, but I also was slightly scared for my life. The bike paths are busy and, let's face it, bikers are aggressive assholes (yes, I am including myself in that generalization now). Anyway, I realized the old, beat-up helmet I was using needed a serious upgrade. After doing some research, I saw Lem Helmets came well recommended. Upon trying the headgear, I was impressed. It's got a protective full-carbon exterior but is still comfy and lightweight. It has 23 air vents, so my hairline wasn't a sweaty mess when I took it off. And, of course, I felt stylish and cool as I bobbed and weaved down the bike path, accidentally cutting people off and wreaking havoc as I went." — Molly Longman Senior Staff Writer

Dior Cica Recover Balm

"I tend to forgo lotions even when I need them most in the dry, winter months. This is because I often find the scents overpowering and they frequently make my skin feel more oily than soft. You know those delicious slices of pizza where you can just see the grease glistening on top? I love to eat them, but don't want my skin to feel like one of them! But this product is different. It's formulated with chamomile and has an extremely subtle but pretty smell. After application, my skin feels buttery, but I can actually open a jar, no problem, with no oily residue lingering. It's a 10 out of 10 in my book, and I plan to use it all winter long." — ML

Women's Under Armour RUSH ColdGear Core Top

"I'm always looking to upgrade my cold-weather running gear game, and this was the perfect addition to my rotation. One thing I've struggled with is finding a top that's breathable enough to huff and puff in but that isn't so loose that it lets heat escape. But this shirt is in the 'Goldilocks zone' — it keeps me warm, but I have a lot of mobility. Plus I'm obsessed with the color, and it has built-in thumb holes, a feature I adore in any shirt." — ML
