All The Wellbeing Products We Tried & Loved In September

September 30, 2021BruceDayne

At least once a week, the writers and editors on Refinery29's Life team get into a long Slack conversation about some cool new item that's been absolutely saving or changing or elevating our lives. So we decided to share the wealth, and highlight some our favorite products each month — the things that were so useful or so cool, we couldn't stop using them.

Here's what we're eating, drinking, carrying, wearing, and decorating our apartments with this month.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Jao Hand Refresher

"Hand sanitizer has become a staple in my purse, nearly as important as my phone, wallet, and keys. I've tried quite a few brands by now, and this one is my favorite by far. It's less drying than most, but the biggest plus is that it doesn't smell like tequila, unlike so many of its competitors. This is thanks to lovely essential oils in the mixture, including lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, geranium, and sage." — Molly Longman, Senior Staff Writer

Hydros Glass Slim Pitcher

"To match my teensy apartment in the big city, I have an extremely small fridge with unusually short shelves and slim pockets on the doors. And because of that, this is the only water filter I've found so far that fits. I'm glad, honestly, because it's cute as heck and filters water quickly. Plus it's super sustainable — the carafe is made of glass, and the filters are made from coconut shell carbon in a BPA-free casing. I will say, the fact that it's glass is a gift and a curse. It's so chic-looking, but it won't survive being dropped — as I learned the hard way recently. RIP. But I got so much use out of this baby, I plan to order another ASAP." — ML

Kendra Scott Sun & Moon Charm

"I've been a long-time fan of this jewelry brand, so I was over the moon to hear that the Kendra Scott team was partnering with mental health organizations such as The Jed Foundation and creating a piece to represent mental health awareness and the strength in reaching out for support. Not only is this charm — which comes in sterling silver and 18k gold vermeil — gorgeous, but I love what it represents. 'Light always follows the dark,' Leah Lucas, VP of creative design for the brand, says in a video explaining the design concept. 'Things are sometimes dark and yet there's a beauty in it. The stars and the moon are still there to guide you. The sun will come back up.' That sentiment hit for me. Not to mention, the company is doing a 50% giveback to JED on profits from this particular charm." — ML

Milu Chili Oil

"I slather most of my food in hot sauce, but often find myself at a loss for creating my own spicy sauces, that is until I found my newest kitchen staple — Milu's chili oil. An excellent blend of chiles, Sichuan peppercorn, and various aromatics, I use this chili oil in everything from pasta sauce to steak marinades to dumpling dipping sauce. My newest obsession is whisking it with a bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper and using it as a dressing for my work-from-home-wish-it-was-Just-Salad salads." — Hannah Rimm, Editor

Noyah Lip Balm

"I never really thought of lip balm as a health or wellness product until my dentist told me recently that I really need to work on my lip hydration for the sake of my oral health. I've tried hundreds of lip balms over the years since my lips are naturally dry and prone to cracking, but for the price and longevity, the Noyah lip balm can't be beat. I'm especially partial to the spearmint flavor and love its very short ingredient list."

Reebok Lux High-Rise Leggings

"I would like to apologize to any of the leggings I've ever recommended in the past, because they will truly never live up to my Reebok Lux High-Rise Leggings. I don't want to say I am in love with a pair of leggings, but honestly, I am. They are the perfect high rise and hold me in while still having enough stretch to accommodate my 11-inch waist-to-hip difference. I also love the matte feel, especially as an aerialist — I feel secure doing everything from hanging from my knees to flips in the air. I've already purchased a second pair and I see at least two more in my future." — HR

Goodr x Reebok Floatride Energy 3 Sneaker

"Before the pandemic, I did as little cardio as possible and focused almost exclusively on weight training and aerial training, but when gyms went away, cardio was basically all I was left with. I ran most days in 2020 and tried four different pairs of sneakers before I landed on the Reebok Floatride Energy 3 sneakers. Now that gyms are open again, I've fully transitioned to doing my cardio workouts on an elliptical and I'm thrilled these shoes transferred so seamlessly from outside to inside. I especially love this collab with Goodr — the '90s design is perfect and I love that the shoes are two different colors. I've found myself gravitating towards these shoes even when it's a rest day because they're just so cute and comfortable." HR

Hobonichi Techo Planner Book (English)

"The 2022 version (out now!) will be my third re-order of this planner. That makes me a relative newbie (it has its own reddit forum). I love it for so many reasons: The paper is graph-lined and perfectly thin. The cover is floppy enough to fold back, but sturdy enough to protect the pages. It gives you one page per day, listing the date, the moon phase, and an interesting quote. There's a monthly calendar up front and an international size chart and conversion table in the back, plus room for notes. Hobonichi makes different versions of this planner, including a day-free and a five-year option that tempt me for different reasons — but for 2022, I'm returning to the original." — Mirel Zaman, Deputy Director of Lifestyle, Wellbeing, & Social Issues

Safely Essential Home Kit

"Frankly, I'm surprised at myself for loving these cleaning products. The company, Safely, was founded by Kris Jenner and Emma Grede (who also co-founded Good American, with Khloe Kardashian), women who are so famous that they don't even need to print their names in their 'about you' page on their site. What does a Jenner know about cleaning products? Well, apparently, how to make them smell amazing. These products smell more like cologne than your typical cleaning product scents of 'clean rain' or 'tropical breeze'. And they are supposed to be free of stabilizers, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, dyes, and animal byproducts too. Even still, the glass cleaner easily cut through months of built-up NYC window grime." — MZ

Safely Safely Essential Home Kit, $, available at Bed Bath & Beyond, Safely

Vaccine Card Protector

"It's finally possible to travel again, but many places and activities require proof of vaccination. I get nervous traveling with my precious vaccination card, which I never got laminated, so I was thrilled when my friend told me about these genius little plastic sleeves." — MZ

Muse S Sleep & Meditation Headband

"I was looking for a product to really help give me feedback on sleep and meditation, and this is probably the most in-depth one I've tried so far. I specifically liked it for meditation — I'm very restless and have a hard time focusing on breath work, but the Muse guided meditation would give me feedback in real time: It would tell me to unclench my jaw, or detect when I was too active or blinking too much. The nudges helped me make subtle adjustments, which were helpful in guiding me back to focusing on my breath. As for the sleep function, if you are interested in looking for feedback and analytics on your sleep quality (and don't mind wearing a headband in bed), this is a great tool to try." — Leora Yashari, Senior News Editor

INBLOOM Probiotic Balance

"I was always somewhat skeptical of taking probiotics. It's not that I didn't believe they had any effect, but more that I didn't think there was any point in taking them, for me. Then, a year ago, I had to take a course of antibiotics and my digestive system was, to put it delicately, ruined. I started taking probiotics and everything started running a lot more smoothly. But, eventually, I stopped taking them because, I don't know, I'm bad with commitment? Anyway. Fast-forward to this summer when my stomach was always in knots (stress has become my most constant companion). So, when I was given the opportunity to try INBLOOM's Probiotic Balance, I leaped at it, and I'm so glad I did. My digestive system has settled down (all comfort where there used to be... none), and that, in turn, has quelled some of my stress (it's all connected!). Also, I love that INBLOOM is vegan, and that they use minimal packaging — refills of the pills come in their "enviropouch" instead of a new container. Yet another thing to feel good about." — Kristin Iversen, Director of Lifestyle, Wellbeing, & Social Issues

Block Shop Textiles Metronome Rug

"Now that summer is officially over and we're entering into hunkering-down-and-nesting-in-place season, I'm devoting myself to making sure my nest (aka apartment) is exactly how I want it to be for the next few months: cozy, colorful, and full of the kinds of details that make me happy to be inside. Enter: this perfect rug from Block Shop Textiles. I love the graphic pattern and bright colors — especially the just-a-shade-darker-than-Yves-Klein-blue. I just know it'll cheer me up even on the gloomiest winter days." — KI

Block Shop Metronome Rug | Cobalt, $, available at Block Shop Textiles

Macadamia Nut Honey Butter

"My breakfast game has completely changed since Banán's Macadamia Nut Honey Butter entered my life. It's a rare morning that goes by when I don't slather this over a freshly toasted piece of bread (I then finish it off with a sprinkle of Maldon salt) or swirl in a dollop of it into some Greek yogurt. And sometimes? I just eat it on its own. It's sweet, but not at all cloying, and elegant in its simplicity — there's only two ingredients, macadamia nuts and honey, both from Hawaii (the Big Island and Oahu, respectively). Pro tip: Order two jars at a time, because once you've finished one, you won't want to be without before your next shipment comes in." — KI

Flow Alkaline Spring Water

"I've decided that 2022 is the year I become a water snob, and I've settled on Flow as my H2O of choice. I've been to two PR events where they served this water — I even stole a few bottles to take home — and I'm hooked. The packaging is 100% recyclable and the water itself is rich with electrolytes and minerals, and the best part is that it's actually delicious. There are other flavors such as Cucumber + Mint, Peace + Blueberry, and Strawberry + Rose, but as someone who isn't really into flavored water, I'll probably stick to the flavorless version for now." — Elizabeth Gulino, Health & Wellness Writer
