Trying to preserve some level of comfort and normalcy during a holiday season unlike any before isn't easy — but thankfully, food always has a way of grounding us.

Whether it's recreating a family recipe, cooking the same dish alongside far-away loved ones over Zoom, or using your newly minted quarantine cooking skills to test out a meal you've never felt confident making before, cooking is a surefire way make this time of year feel special — and help you feel closer to loved ones you may not be able to see in person.

That's why we teamed up with Campbell's® to find out what recipes the Refinery29 staff is excited to make this year. From dressed-up mac & cheese to Swedish meatballs to mashed potatoes with a secret ingredient, here's all the inspo you need for your holiday meals, no matter how you're celebrating.

Ultra Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Kate Durling, Account Manager
"This recipe is a one of my kids' favorites. They love to customize at the end by adding on their own topping such as cheese or bacon. As a busy mom I also love that this is a quick, easy yet tasty way to serve up a warm winter dinner."

Béchamel-Baked Mac & Cheese

Andrea Cheng, Senior Beauty Editor
"I grew up eating boxed mac & cheese thinking that was real mac & cheese until one Thanksgiving my husband spent hours in the kitchen making this baked version from scratch, and it blew my mind. He’s made it every Thanksgiving since."

Lamb, Harissa, and Almond Sausage Rolls

Isabella Alesci, Senior Photo Editor
"Like half of New York City, I started baking bread during quarantine. Heading into autumn I graduated to crusts, pies, dumplings, and basically anything that involved dough. This recipe is perfect for my dough obsession and my newfound appreciation for trying new recipes — although I won’t be making the phyllo dough myself for this one (it’s too busy for me to bake as much as I used to). It’s the perfect balance between a hearty winter meat dish and a touch of dough for my addiction."

Swedish Meatballs

Miu Hosannah, Account Manager
"I love making Swedish meatballs over the holidays for my family — it's such a warm, comforting meal. This recipe uses Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup and is super easy to make. It pairs perfectly with so many other holiday staples and is always a crowd-pleaser."

Fancy Canned Cranberries

Lucy Meilus, Director of Branded Content
"I'm obsessed with cranberry sauce and have never underwood why it's something we only consume once a year. Fresh cranberries are nice and good, but nothing compares to the can, sorry! I like this Alison Roman recipe for a little extra *dressing up.*"

Earl Grey Butter Cookies

Evelyn Zhang, Senior Designer
“I adopted this recipe from a cultured butter cookies recipe. It says to roll the dough it out in a log, but I don't do that because I like my cookies pretty, so I roll it out in a sheet and cut them with a scalloped cookie cutter (you can do whatever shape you want). If I’m lazy I’ll just get earl grey tea bags since it’s already in little specks, and dump about 4/5 bags’ worth in there. I also make a tea concentrate with a little bit of water and 2-3 tea bags (you just wait until it’s cool and dump it in the dough). In the summer I had grown a bunch of edible pansies, so I picked them and used them as decorations.”

Mac & Cheese With Sage & Pancetta

Bethany Lewis, VP of Content Operations
"It's not the holidays in my family without some kind of mac & cheese dish. I like to make my own version and add sage and pancetta to this classic recipe, but I've learned to make an extra batch of the plain stuff — my 17 nieces and nephews demand it!"

Mashed Potatoes With Ranch

Lauren Estabrook, Account Manager
"This recipe is a fan favorite in my family! Nothing completes a holiday dinner quite like the comfort of butter and potatoes. With our mashed potatoes, our family adds a secret ingredient to top it off: Ranch dressing is a must!"

INGREDIENTS
4 pounds yukon gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
3 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
8 fresh sage leaves
3 sprigs fresh thyme
6 cloves garlic, smashed
1 parmesan rind
6 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
Kosher salt and black pepper
1 cup shredded gruyere cheese (or more!)

INSTRUCTIONS
1. In the bowl of a slow cooker, combine potatoes, parmesan rind, heavy cream, milk, garlic, and sage. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 6-8 hours, until the potatoes are fork tender. Switch the slow cooker to warm.
2. Drain potatoes, reserving all of the cream. Discard thyme, sage, and parmesan rind. Add potatoes back to the slow cooker and mash with a potato masher.
3. Add 1 1/2 cups of the reserved cream and the butter. Continue to add more cream until your desired consistency is reached. Season potatoes with salt and pepper. Stir in cheese, cover, and cook for another 15 minutes, or until melted and creamy. Keep the potatoes covered, on warm, for up to 4 hours.
4. Serve potatoes topped with additional fresh herbs, butter, and ranch!

Almond Flour Pumpkin Bread

Paulina Canini, Account Manager
"I can’t stop making this pumpkin bread. It's allergy friendly, since it's made with oat flour and almond flour and no sugar (maple syrup sweetens it up). I like baking it in muffin tins instead of a loaf so I can send sweet treats to my friends via snail mail — because everyone needs a pick-me-up right now."

Creamy Pesto Chicken & Bow Ties

Sarah DiGiorgio, Senior Account Manager
"This creamy pasta is super easy to make and perfect for picky eaters. It's the ideal comfort food, especially on cold winter days when you just want a hearty meal to warm you up." - Sarah DiGiorgio, Senior Account Manager
