After our home was featured in Architectural Digest, I wanted the dust to settle before I shared a full room-by-room breakdown.

Because so many of you write in asking “Where is your couch from?” or “Where did you find that rug?” I figured it was time to do a full blog post featuring our sunroom. Let me start this off by saying we would not have been able to pull off the design of these rooms without the amazingly talented Martha Mulholland. We have loved working with Martha and hope to partner up on a new room soon!

I’m going to start with what we call our sunroom. This is one of my favorite rooms in the house because it gets the best morning light. It’s where we start our day, every day, over coffee. We worked with Martha on our sunroom and have made very little, to no changes to the space since she finished it. The only addition we’ve made is a swivel chair that I sourced from Lulu & Georgia. This room is a relaxed living room and has a tiny tv hanging on the right corner which you cannot see in photos. We rarely watch television in this room but have one in here for Grant to catch up on the news in the morning. He twisted my arm and fought to keep a television in this room so I caved.

Sofa

Our sofa was custom ordered through Dekor and we selected a fabric that would be great for a lot of wear and tear since this is our more casual hang out room. The sofa is called the “Dorothy” and you can request a tear sheet from Dekor on their website. I found the tiny gold table next to the sofa at the flea market on Melrose Place. It rotates around the house from room to room.

What is a Hassock?

I learned a new word from Martha throughout this process and it is “hassock.” Basically the word “hassock” is a fancy word for pouf or ottoman. Technically ottoman’s have storage and hassocks do not. Our hassock is by my favorite interiors store in Los Angeles, Nickey Kehoe. We loved this hassock so much that we invested in a second one that we rotate around the house. Hassocks {or poufs} are really great investments for your home because they can rotate in and around all of your rooms. We move ours from the playroom to the bathroom to the sunroom and sometimes to our formal room when we need additional seating during parties.

The Trophy

One of the things I really wanted to do in this home was have a trophy piece for each room. I wanted to go a little outside of my comfort zone, whether it be with wallpaper, printed drapes or a stand out piece of furniture that really made the room pop.  In the sun room, the trophy piece is a vintage Italian sheepskin and rush lounge chair that Martha found online. You can see it in the bottom left hand corner of this photo.

Window Treatment Hack

We knew that we wanted to have window treatments that opened up easily to allow light in, but we didn’t love the idea of shutters and cords cluttering up behind our sofa. We also wanted the ability to open these windows easily. Martha came up with the brilliant hack to instal panels of fabric that were custom made that had rods at the bottom. These rods can be lifted up and hung on tiny hooks that we installed on each window. We love this hack so much that we’ve used it in three other rooms in the house.
