The Cotswolds is such a beautiful place to drive around in the UK, and one of my favourite villages in this area is Chipping Campden. Whenever I come here, there is always a visceral surprise. While much of the Cotswolds may be rather twee with its cream stone and quaint streets, here they are a gorgeous consistent darker yellow. There are lovely, restaurants, shops and art galleries to explore.
One dominate picturesque building that stands out is the Cotswold House Hotel, a Grade II listed Regency townhouse. You can either park your car or in my case cars outside the hotel. Or there is a dedicated car park near the Spa area.
I was driving the latest Aston Martin DB11.
I was also driving an Audi TT.
This very popular hotel is always buzzing with both guests and tourists who pop in for afternoon tea or a bistro lunch. The interior design is glamorous, sophisticated and luxurious, sleek and chic. In this period townhouse, original features, such as decorative cornicing are treated in a single, non-attention-seeking colour. The wallpaper, however, is a form of artwork full of rich textures, I loved sitting here, sipping a tea peering out and watching people walkabout.
Staying here, it is easy to completely relax. The quiet surrounds of the village, reminded me of one of my homes I used to own here in the UK.
The spiral staircase with touches of rich colour, such as red and black banners added depth. What a luxurious way to access the rooms.
Bistrol On The Square
The bistrol on the square resataurant is always busy, so book ahead. It is also the area where breakfast is served. It is a nice place to be able to look outside watching Chipping Camden wake up.
Fig Restaurant
For those looking to wine and dine their guests, the Fig restaurant is another option. Fig 6 is primarily a 3-course menu ‘plus extras’ and Fig 8 is a 5-course tasting menu ‘plus extras’. Each is available as an option for a standard, pescatarian or vegan diet. Each menu is also accompanied by an optional wine flight, including the vegan menu. I opted for a vegan wine.
Gareth is a creative chef where no challenge is too large and therefore I knew I was in safe hands.
Gareth signature style: technique dishes, that seem deceptively simple, until you taste them, with whispers of traditional Italian cooking. This fig with mozzarella cheese was devine.
The presentation and taste with roasted beetroot with a fish fillet of rich fish. This in a clarified liquid that hid oceans worth of deep flavour.
More dishes came out with unusual tastes in an unshowy way. It made the experience even more enticing.
Gareth a much calmer Chef than Gorden Ramsey, clearly worked well under pressure and it showed in the way his team and food were layed out during the evening.
Pumpkin with chocolate is something I have never tasted. With such a pretty presentation I have to say, it left my pallette in overdrive. Her at Fig you are always left wanting more. Thanks to Gareth I certainly will be returning.
Garden & Spa
This is a lovely place to relax and soak up the famous English gardens. Of course, it was winter but it still looked fantastic. The access to the car park and Spa sets the tone for a treat of well being.
There is a spa and there are treatment rooms for guests to enjoy and unwind.
Garden Suites Montrose House
Guests flock to the famous Cotswolds to be able to experience everything it has to offer. Where they choose to lie their heads is as important as the fields itself. Imagine having your own private entrance like home, welcome to Montrose House. As I turned the key I felt like walking back in time. I used to own a house like Cotswold house so memories were slowly being untapped.
Resting Elegance
I was greeted with a tea room defined by existing wall colours and a fireplace. I knew the moment I stepped in I was home. This suite created for guests epitomized the country house for which the hotel has become renowned for. This is why you have to book in advanced. With this modern fireplace on and as the weather got more wet and stormy it didn’t bother me at all.
Being able to peer outside to look at others peering at me was so much fun. Chipping Campden is such a gorgeous little village.
I am all about the detail of interior design, I enjoyed this glass and bamboo table.
Oval Shaped Stone Bath
If I thought my ultimate sensory indulgence was over when I walked into the bathroom I knew I was now not leaving the room.
I always wonder why we don’t have a ceiling art feature whilst soaking in a bath. I loved looking up with tear drops of orange towering over me.
Conclusion
2020 is a time where I must continue to live each day as it comes. To treasure what today brings and to pamper me. It was stressful driving two cars, parking them and making sure that at £230,000 everything was safe for me. My Mental, spiritual and physical state at this level has to be looked after.
The staff at Cotswold House Hotel made sure I was pampered on every level, in order for my luxury adventures to be as stress-free as possible. A hotel is only as good as the people who run it.
