3 Trending Haircuts That Prove Spring Has Sprung

No matter how often you complain about your hair — and we all do it — it has a purpose when it comes to detecting a new season. Right around March or April, a warm breeze picks up your ends, grazes your edges, or tousles the curls around your face and you realize that it's finally spring.

Of course, that mood boost hinges on how much you're really feeling your hair (that includes the cut, color, or headband you're wearing). If you're not in a confident headspace, it's probably time for a cut. Whether that's a pre-spring dusting (like Kate Middleton), or a big change (like bangs), we recommend perusing the biggest haircut trends for spring 2020 for inspiration. Find exactly what you need to make a seasonal change, ahead.

The Blunt Lob

Where the chin-skimming bob is a forever classic, this spring, it's the long bob (or lob) that's trending. Here, L.A.-based hairstylist Kelsey Gusto shows us the power of a mid-length cut, executed in a blunt, un-layered manner —which is clearly best paired with a beachy highlight.
The best thing about a clean-cut lob is that the style options are endless. We're partial to this example — sourced from Australian's Boho Blonde salon — which is worn with an ombré rose gold color and lived-in waves.
Most pros recommend bringing visuals into the salon of the blunt lob you're looking for, especially if you have curly hair. Working with your stylist to figure out how to achieve the weighted lines and blunt shape with your natural texture is key.

The Frenchy Fringe

The second iteration of the French girl bob is the French girl fringe, often paired with long length. Here, NYC-based stylist Erickson Arrunategui styled model Taylor LaShae's hotly-requested, brow-skimming fringe with long extensions.
Like extensions, piecey bangs can be low-commitment when you opt for the clip-in kind, like model Jourdan Dunn did here.
In January, model Taylor Hill jumped on the 2020 bang trend by debuting a feathery fringe. More recently, she showed us how to style it with soft, air-dried curls.

The Modern Shag

If you're craving a new shape, L.A.-based hairstylist Sal Salcedo recommends drawing inspiration from the mullet. "I've been seeing more and more women asking about a mullet-style cut," Salcedo tells us. "We've seen trendsetters in L.A. and NYC inspired by the shaggy styles worn by Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez."
Salcedo tells us that the general styling focus should be on creating a frame around the face, layering shorter pieces in the front, and going longer in the back.
This particular cut, infused with layers, can work on any texture. Though in particular, curls create the coolest movement when going for the '70s aesthetic.
