We get so inspired by spaces. When we worked with our interior designer, Olivia Brock, we stuck to themes, with each piece fitting into some special memory or feeling we wanted to evoke. For instance, we have a guest room we call the French Riviera Suite and another room called the Treehouse Loft. While each room has it’s own “theme” they are all tied together through common elements we love, like natural materials, lots of light, cheerful colors and playful prints. We are definitely not afraid to add color throughout our home while still keeping it classic.

Serena & Lily Coffee Table (we bought this for our family room downstairs last year but realized it was better suited for this space), Trio of Trays
Prior to our renovation this room was a walk in closet to the master (that we moved downstairs), a hallway and 3 linen closets. We thought it was a poor use of space so we completely opened it up and created a new open “common room”. While our renovations were finished nearly a year and a half ago, the room sat pretty much empty aside from a stint as Gal Meets Glam Headquarters when we were between offices. Our plan was to address this space and turn it into a playroom once children were on the radar, since the two ‘kids rooms’ are right next door. When we found out we were expecting, the timing was perfect with our office moving outside our home and making the space ready for our newest little addition. So at the same time we planned our nursery, we also planned to transform this space to adapt to our new life with a child.

We have so many Serena & Lily items that we love throughout our house (in our kitchen, family room, guest rooms, outdoor and more), so we knew this would be the perfect resource for completing this whole room. I love how their focus isn’t just on beautiful decor but also function, too, which made it easy to fill this space with their pieces. Things like an almost indestructible round coffee table (great for children), incredibly durable fabric on upholstery and plenty of baskets and storage to allow for a streamlined and organized living space.

Having lots of baskets and bins for storage was important to us. We can only imagine the amount of toys, books and gear we will collect over the next couple of years. We have more than enough organization right now, which feels really great knowing that we have space for what’s to come.
Ultimately we wanted everything in the space to be very kid-friendly, but at the same time, it was important for us to have it be a room that we also wanted to spend time in as adults. We absolutely love the way it turned out! It’s bright and colorful and best of all, feels lived in and homey, which is the most important thing to us. Since this room is just outside of the nursery, I plan to spend a lot of time here once the baby is born, cuddling, nursing and relaxing with her.

Thank you to Serena & Lily for the gifted items in this post.
