If you’re tired of swiping right and swiping left, bored with setting up profiles, or just too lazy to do it yourself, you might want to try the new dating app Ship.

Sprouting from a partnership hatched between industry veterans Match Group and Betches Media, Ship has just hit the Android marketplace and is already poised to make a serious splash. The iOS version of the matchmaking app has been in play since January, and people all over the world have started shipping their closest single friends via the new dating service.

Sure. We need another dating app, right? Believe it or not Ship is doing things in a wildly different fashion. Instead of a single user setting sail for romance in the traditional sense, Ship introduces the concept of a virtual crew. With the help of your best friends, trusted family members, and savvy associates, you become the captain of the love boat. However, your crewmates can act on your behalf and make their own judgments on potential mates.

It might seem a little invasive to allow one's mother and father to judge the quality of attraction for their sons or daughters (and frankly, you probably don’t even want that.) Thankfully, the captain of each crew can dictate the terms of their shared experience. You are definitely not obligated to date anyone your mom selects for you.

How good are friends and family at vetting one's dates, anyway? As it turns out, friends are a little bolder when making moves on your behalf than you might initially think. Of the matches made on Ship, 53 percent are due to crew members reaching out to touch base, rather than the captain taking the wheel themselves. With numbers like that, it's hard to argue against the success of letting someone else take charge for a moment, especially if you have a bit of a shy streak when it comes to letting your freak flag fly.

With a steadfast, eagle-eyed crew of your closest friends (OK and if you want to add your mom and dad, fine) anything is possible. You might actually get shipped.
