Marvel Movie The Eternals to Include Gay Superhero
Hot on the heels of the big reveal of 2020's “The Eternals,” it has been promised (and confirmed) that one of the immortals will be gay.
As Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige detailed recently during an appearance on Good Morning America, one of the men of the superhero squad to hit the silver screen next year will be openly gay.

Perhaps most important, Feige elaborated, this character wouldn't present his sexuality as anything other the completely normal. “He's married, he's got a family, and that is just part of who he is,” he said.
Will the hero in question be either of the “Game of Thrones” alum currently slated to appear in “The Eternals”? Both Richard Madden (Robb Stark) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) have been named as featured actors for this latest blockbuster entry into the ever-expanding MCU, but many fans have their doubts that it will be one of these two who will be breaking the mold.
The move follows a bit of controversy surrounding a similar announcement made before the release of the critically acclaimed “Avengers: Endgame.” The Russo brothers mentioned that the film would feature an openly gay character. However, that character ended up being a cameo piece by Joe Russo, a member of “Captain America's” grieving circle following the time lapse featured in the flick. And not exactly the role the audience expected.

The latest phase of the MCU will see a great deal more diversity than we’ve seen in the past. “Thor: Love” and “Thunder” will see Valkyrie exploring her bisexuality as she searches for a queen. “First of all, as new King, she needs to find her queen, so that will be her first order of business,” Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson said at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. “The Eternals” will also include Marvel’s first deaf character. Lauren Ridloff will portray the speedy Makkari in the ensemble movie, increasing representation of oft-marginalized communities in the process.
There's bound to be some public outcry surrounding the move, but the vast majority of comic book fans will almost certainly welcome the news that Marvel is really stepping up its diversity game.
So, grab your popcorn, hoist the rainbow flag high, and enjoy the show. “The Eternals” hits theatres next year on November 6.
