  1. Heightism
  2. Online Dating Is Tougher
  3. Nothing Fits
  4. You Don't Get Promoted
  5. You're Stuck With It

In today's article, I show you 5 common times when short men are screwed over and show you how you can overcome them.

So let's begin!

1. Heightism

The term heightism refers to prejudice towards individuals based on their height.

Heightism has been a very common occurrence in recent years. The state of Michigan even went as far as prohibiting height discrimination.

There have even been cases of lawsuits based on heightism.

tall man and short man proportions

Proportions are key when it comes to defining being “short.”

A 2002 lawsuit showed that highly qualified applicants were turned down for jobs because they were considered to be too short.

A 2005 case against the car company Volvo is also famous for an example of denying people jobs based on their height.

Despite heightism being a “thing” – the best advice I can give you for overcoming its existence is to own your body and your image.

If you're one of the men who feel less confident because they're not tall, then you need to find other things that can give you an advantage.

Know how to dress for your body, take care of your body and love yourself for who you are – the world will notice that.

2. Online Dating Is Tougher

If you're looking for love online and you're shorter than 5'9″ – you may have a harder time finding love than taller men.

A survey by a dating site ‘Are You Interested?' asked women what their requirements were for potential partners.

Amongst their responses was height – they concluded that women discriminate against shorter men online.

It is also common in the online dating world to see captions on women's profiles with statements such as “If you're under 6'1 don't swipe right”, or “If you're short, don't even bother”.

Finding your soulmate online can be hard – even more so when you're below average height.

However, you can leverage your other qualities so that you will have more success in finding that special woman online.

The best thing that you can do is be open about your height – after all, no one likes a liar.

Also, develop a sense of humor, since it is scientifically proved that women are more attracted to guys who make can them laugh.

Pick up an interesting hobby that makes you stand out from the crowd and will make you a person of interest – someone that women want to know more about.

3. Nothing Fits

Another issue that seems to fit under “short men problems” is that well-fitting clothing seems to be almost impossible to find.

You know what I'm talking about – every shirt is just too baggy, every pair of trousers is too long.

The question is, how can you find that perfect fit? Here are some great style tips for you.

The first thing you can do is to search for stores and find ones whose sizes fit you best off-the-rack. Once you've done that – take it to a tailor and have it made to fit you properly.

Identify those stores who give you quality – and go there regularly!

Another piece of advice I can give you – try different sizes.

Even if you find a store where your usual size fits you good, you shouldn't stop there. Try a size smaller or a size bigger and you never know – it might fit you even better than your usual size!

4. You Don't Get Promoted

Believe it or not – promotions are hard to come by for short men.

A research paper from 2004 published in the Journal of Applied Psychology showed that height is strongly related to success for men.

The research concluded that the taller a man is – the more likely it is he will have a higher paycheck.

According to research, shorter men have a harder time getting promoted.

If you feel that you might have been looked over for promotion – here are some pieces of advice I can give you.

Be the first one to come in and the last one to leave.

If you work harder than everyone else in your department – there is absolutely no reason for you to be ignored.

Show initiative. Plain and simple – make sure your superiors know your ambitions and that you're willing to work hard for it.

5. You're Stuck With It

It is what it is.

Your height is something you can't change.

Instead of being sorrowful about it – embrace it!

successful short men

Your height does NOT determine your success.

There are many famous businessmen and athletes who fall into the category of “below-average height”.

This includes Jeff Bezos, currently the richest person on Earth. Mark Zuckerberg is another great example.

Let's not forget some of the athletes as well. Lionel Messi, one of the best soccer players alive, is 5'7″.

Muggsy Bogues was a 5'3″ NBA player and Spud Webb was a 5'7 winner in a dunk competition in the NBA.

As you can see, if you embrace your height and if you are willing to work hard for something – you can, without a doubt, achieve success.
