Even though Thomas and I have been married for nearly seven years (our anniversary is on Sunday!), we’re happily still in the stage of life when many of our friends and family members are getting married. We had the most wonderful time at my sister’s wedding last month—if you missed the recap of our trip to Ireland for the celebration, you can find it here. As a bridesmaid, I didn’t have to worry too much about my outfit for her big day. In the past, though, deciding what to wear to a wedding sometimes took multiple purchases, returns, and try-on sessions before landing on the right look. Considering the need to balance the season, the venue, and the dress code, I’m never surprised that what to wear to a wedding is one of my most frequently asked questions.
In each Gal Meets Glam Collection launch, I aim to include a handful of pieces that can easily be dressed up for a special occasion like a wedding. Below, I’ve curated a few options from our spring and summer collections that would be just right for a variety of popular summer wedding settings and levels of formality. Our team loves seeing you dressed up in GMGC on Instagram, so once you find your perfect wedding guest look, share a photo with our #gmgonme and #gmgcollection hashtags so we can see!
On the Beach
Growing up in California, I’ve attended my fair share of beach weddings, and my favorite thing to wear to them is always a flowy maxi dress. They look so beautiful and romantic against the sand and water, and with the longer hem, there’s no need to worry about the likely breeze. Opt for simple accessories in natural textures, plus block heels or wedges to ensure you’ll be able to walk (and dance!) comfortably, no matter what surface the ceremony and reception are held on.
The Siena Dress
The blue palette, tropical botanical print, and flowy skirt of our Siena maxi dress were practically made for weddings by the sea. Complete your celebration-ready look with my favorite comfortable espadrilles in navy.
In a Garden
There is something so romantic about a wedding surrounded by flowers! We have many elegant styles to choose from that would be perfect for a garden celebration. Whether you opt for one of our floral printed dresses or a solid-colored style, complete your look with a pair of statement earrings, feminine heels, and a printed clutch.
The Lenore Dress
Understated details like swiss dots and buttons on the bodice make the delicate silhouette of our lavender Lenore dress extra special. Add a floral accessory, like daisy Rebecca de Ravenel earrings, to subtly nod to your garden setting.
Cocktail Attire
Since this is one of the most popular wedding dress codes, I believe every woman should have a few cocktail dresses she absolutely loves in her closet. You can’t go wrong with a classic little black dress, but especially in the summer, I prefer to wear a beautiful color. Pair one of our dressy, solid-colored pieces with neutral heels and chic accessories, like pearl statement earrings or a tortoise clutch.
The Josephine Dress
Our rose-colored floral lace Josephine dress makes a feminine statement that is so fitting on such a special occasion. Pair it with pearl heart earrings from Nicola Bathie to complete this timelessly romantic look.
Black Tie Optional
I’m always thrilled to open an invite stating “black tie optional” as the dress code—it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy styling some of the fancier pieces in my closet that I don’t get to wear very often. From a sophisticated jumpsuit to a dreamy lace midi, pair these pieces with a polished updo or my favorite vintage curls, strappy heels, and your favorite bold lip color to create a romantic and elegant look.
The Sylvia Jumpsuit
For a fun twist on a black-tie dress code, trade a dress for our fabulous blush Sylvia jumpsuit. The one-shoulder silhouette, accented with a bow, creates a sleek silhouette and shows off your summer tan. Carry a unique pearl clutch to complete this modern, feminine look.
