9 Out of 10 Women Say This One Trait is Sexiest, Says Study

What’s the No. 1 trait women say is sexiest in a partner? Is it six-pack abs? Extra large wallets? Neither. It turns out, most women think something else is way sexier.

As a new study suggests, it turns out that all of the fairy tales, children's animated classics and advice from our mothers may have been accurate after all. What do women want in a man? Kindness.

In a large and comprehensive survey launched by a trio of research partners including menstrual cycle tracking app Clue, condom company MyONE and the University of Gottingen, 64,000 women from 180 countries were polled on their romantic and sexual preferences.

By far the most unanimous answer across the board? A strong preference for kindness. Nearly 90 percent of women — 88.9 percent, in fact — said that kindness was an important trait when choosing a partner. Supportiveness wasn't very far behind at 86.5 percent, and intelligence nabbed the bronze medal at 72.3 percent. 

According to Dr. Virginia J. Vitzthum, working with Clue, the Kinsey Institute and Indiana University, “Kindness is rather like gravity, essential but little noticed until it’s gone. Given today’s emphasis on looks and wealth, it may surprise you that kindness is a top desirable trait across the world.”

“But kindness is key to the human capacity for forming the long-term social bonds so essential to our evolution,” Vitzthum added. “Without those bonds, and kindness to help us get through the inevitable rough patches, we wouldn’t have survived and flourished.”

The question then becomes: If women value kindness, empathy, and intelligence — what traits are less important to them?

As it turns out, having a huge penis doesn't actually add up to much in terms of female opinion. The women polled across the globe indicated a preference for an average sized member, with ladies who had more sexual experience preferring a larger size. Beyond that, penis size was only the third most important physical trait — trailing a charming smile and beautiful eyes.

Another encouraging statistic from the study is that only one in ten women admitted to believing that ethnic similarity mattered in a romantic relationship, with one in four women saying that religious similarity was a valuable part of any long-term partnership.

And while women in certain countries around the world were less concerned with material and personal classifications, American women were quite concerned with a prospective partner's wealth and political affiliation. So, if she starts talking about her investment portfolio, you should be prepared to show your knowledge of diversification of assets, too.

No matter where you go looking for love, however, the fact that kindness rules all is an encouraging tidbit for every man. You don’t actually need a whole lot to get the girl. Kindness actually goes a long way.
