Plenty of Fish Provides Tips for Summer Dating
Summertime is the time for love. Or, at least, some hot and steamy hooking up. Whichever you prefer, Plenty of Fish (POF) offers helpful tips in its “Steamy Summer Report.”
The popular dating app recently surveyed more than 1,500 U.S. singles to find out what this summer’s hottest activities, fashion faux pas, and dating “must-haves” are needed for a super hot romance.
Are you wishing for a sexy summer tryst? You’ll want to make sure you aren’t making any questionable fashion choices. According to POF, most of the women surveyed agreed that the biggest turn-off in men’s fashion is socks and sandals. And while this cringeworthy footwear style might have ranked as the No. 1 no-no, millennial women ranked the bro tank top as the No. 2 fashion faux pas for men.

On the other hand, men also got their chance to critique ladies' fashion. As it turns out, modern men aren't exactly a big fan of the high-waisted pants look. This is pretty ironic, given that high-waisted leggings, jeans, and jeggings are red hot right now. According to the Stitch Fix, high-waisted jeans are having “a moment” right now in the female fashion world – but, according to the men in the survey, they hate it.
That being said, there was a pretty big generational gap on this one. While millennial men were giving a hard no to the high-waisted bottoms, with 43 percent of younger guys giving it a firm thumbs down, only 17 percent of middle-aged men had a problem with the high-waisted hip huggers.
So now you know what not to wear. Next, you’ll need to decide on the best beach date. When asked what their ideal summer date looked like, respondents from both sexes made it clear that they absolutely loved the idea of a bonfire on the beach. Romantic, rustic, and providing the perfect opportunity to have a few drinks beneath the stars – while, at the same time, not freezing your behind off – this seems like an equal opportunity pleaser.
And while weekday dates are often a hard sell in the winter months, both men and women are more receptive to the idea during the warmer seasons, according to the survey results.

Also, while you might think “the hotter, the better” when it comes to summer dating, it's important to make sure it isn’t too hot. According to the Plenty of Fish data, 25 percent of people have canceled a date because it was just too damn hot outside. If that's truly the case, air conditioning is sounding like a better value proposition by the minute. Or, at least, pick a venue out of the sun.
Most important in summer dating? More than three-quarters of respondents were in agreement about the importance of updating your dating profile in advance of beach season. That means include a photo, bio, and interests. This, too, could be dependent on your generation, with millennials more likely than older folks to find this important.
Finally, nearly half of all respondents said they were prepared to make things exclusive if they were to hook up with a special someone this summer. Interestingly, however, more men were seeking commitment than women. Slightly more than half of the male respondents owned up to wanting something exclusive, while slightly less than half of women felt the same way.
If you’re looking for a hot summer date, you’ll need a little more than just sun. With the data from POF’s Steamy Summer Report, you might just end up having the hottest summer yet — at least when it comes to dating.
